At the end of the Spanish Civil War, a little girl (Ivana Baquero) is taken to the countryside by her new stepfather, a brutal officer of the Franco regime (Sergi Lopez) charged with cleaning up the remaining resistance. Her only refuge from the violence around her is a fantasy world she constructs, dominated by mythical creatures who are not as benign as they first appear.
