Julia Jansch is a South African writer, director and producer whose work follows people striving to transcend deep personal wounds and the broken systems that confine them, drawn to the moments when light breaks through and a different life becomes imaginable. Rooted in documentary, her intimate, character-driven films have travelled widely: My Father the Mover won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at the Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired by MTV Studios; ELSA premiered at Tribeca and was released by The New Yorker; and The Academy was released globally on Disney+ as part of its People & Places series. Her first feature documentary, From Dust, We Spin recently won Best South African Documentary at the Durban International Film Festival, qualifying it for Academy Award consideration.
