Maid
“In a remarkable performance that won her a special award from the world cinema jury at this year's Sundance Film Festival (which also gave [director Sebastian] Silva's film its Grand Jury Prize), Chilean television vet Saavedra goes through one of the most uncanny psycho-physical transformations I've ever seen in a movie without the benefit of obvious makeup or other prosthetics.”
The Maid
(La Nana)
THE MAID (LA NANA) is the story of Racquel (Catalina Saavedra) who has served as the maid for the Valdes family for 23 years. Neither truly a member of the family nor simply a servant, she inhabits a vague space somewhere in between. Threatened when the family decides to bring on extra help, Racquel engages in a series of increasingly desperate acts to hold on to her position in this insightful comedic drama about family, class, and self-discovery.

“Every once in awhile -- not often, but it happens -- a film appears out of nowhere that doesn't go where you expect it to go or do what you expect it to do. The Maid has that particular gift of leaving you off balance in the best possible way, and whenever something like that comes around you owe it to yourself to check it out.” (Kenneth Turan, L.A. Times)
Nominated for two Gotham Awards: Best Feature and Best Breakthrough Actor.
