Based on the murder of Hatun Aynur Sürücü in 2005, A REGULAR WOMAN portrays the life of a free spirited young woman living with an ultra-conservative Turkish Muslim family in Berlin. She provokes the ire of her family by embracing a westernized lifestyle. There are threats and harassment, but the authorities won't intervene. It is only when the family decides to end the family’s “shame” that the horrific practice of "honor killing" in thrust into the national spotlight.
