Autobiography of a Princess was the return to East Indian themes by the team of Ismail Merchant and James Ivory after the Hollywood-based The Wild Party (1973). James Mason plays the former tutor of the father of Indian princess Mahur Jaffrey. The two discuss their experiences in colonial India. Made for television, the film is among other things a terrific opportunity to see the brilliant Indian actress Mahur Jaffrey at her best.
