HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT April 29 & 30 - 2004
Hidden in Plain Sight is a feature-length documentary that looks at the nature of U.S. policy in Latin America through the prism of the School of the Americas, the controversial military school in Georgia that trains Latin American military officers and police. They're taught counterinsurgency tactics with which they have carried out coups, repression, torture and massacres against activists, trade unionists and ordinary citizens throughout Latin America. Hidden is narrated by Martin Sheen and features interviews with activist intellectuals Noam Chomsky, Eduardo Galeano and Michael Parenti as well as victims of the school's graduates. It offers a brave, matter-of-fact look at the consequences of U.S. foreign policy in this hemisphere.

Portrait of a Protest: Citizens Voice their Opposition to the School of the Americas
This short film provides a "you-are-there" glimpse into the annual protest of the School of the Americas by citizens remembering the thousands of Latin Americans who are dead because of the school's graduates. It takes place in November 2001 as more than 12,000 people peacefully risk arrest and violence. The film evokes the immediacy, passion and fear felt by the protesters and the college student filmmaker, making this an appropriate introduction to the full-length feature on the school. www.soaw.org 17 mins / Candi Lemon / dir.
