At the beginning of the 20th century, Egon Schiele is one of the most provocative artists in Vienna. His life and work are driven by beautiful women and an era that is coming to an end. Schiele’s erotic paintings scandalize Viennese society while daring artists like his mentor Gustav Klimt as well as art agents and gallerists are sensing the exceptional. What his contemporaries may not know is that Schiele is prepared to go beyond his own pain and to sacrifice love and life for his art.

• “Now, almost 100 years after Schiele’s tragic death at only 28 years in 1918, the film
Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden celebrates the exceptional artist with wonderful cinematography (Carsten Thiele gets to quite literally paint with light) under the direction of Dieter Berner. Every detail in the film is lovingly taken care of, every tiny role cast to perfection.” - Ristretto

• “This film presents a fascinating biographical story as well as an interesting historical perspective on life in Austria and Vienna at the beginning of the twentieth century. The actors and actresses are refreshing young newcomers to film.” - Kinocritics
