In 1933 in Berlin, Anna is only nine years old when her life changes forever. Her father, a well known opponent of Nazism, flees Germany with Anna, her twelve-year-old brother Max and her mother Dorothea. Anna has to leave everything behind including her beloved pink rabbit as her family face a new life of challenges and privations first in a bucolic Swiss village, then to a garret in Paris and finally to relative safety in England.
