Valhalla Rising

Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of the Danish Pusher trilogy, goes back in time to visit some other unruly Scandinavians: a mute warrior (Mads Mikkelsen) and his youthful sidekick (Maarten Stevenson) who join up with a boatload of Vikings to explore a new world.

“Visually stunning, thematically rich...a cracked and crazy meditation on war and religion.” (Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times)

“Lots of movies about the Middle Ages can do the mud and blood -- though we sure see a lot of both here -- but in this movie it's like Refn has ripped you out of time and dropped you there.” (Andrew O’Hehir, Salon)
