Under the Flags, the Sun
A brilliant found footage piece and, at the same time, a haunting reconstruction of a past that continues to have a strong influence on our present.
Under the Flags, the Sun
UNDER THE FLAGS, THE SUN is a documentary composed entirely from 120 hours of rare archival footage, meticulously assembled to chronicle the 35-year dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner in Paraguay (1954–1989). Director Juanjo Pereira reconstructs the regime’s rise and endurance through propaganda, international broadcasts, and declassified materials, revealing how media manipulation and constitutional control solidified authoritarian power. The film reflects on how these mechanisms continue to shape national identity and memory today.
