typhoon

(Taepung)
Dubbed the Mission: Impossible of Korean cinema because of its all-star cast, Typhoon became one of the biggest productions ever made in Korea. Director Kwak Kyung-taek will premiere his brand-new "director's cut" of the film the U.S. on June 2 in theaters.

At the core of
Typhoon, South Korea's tragic story is mirrored in the conflict between Sin (played by heart throb Jang Dong-gun) a pirate, and Kang Se-jong (played by Lee Jung-jae), an elite naval officer. Sin harbors a seething resentment and anger toward the Korean Peninsula, while Kang Se-jong is conflicted by a sense of empathy and pity for his enemy. Neither friends nor foes, the two men are victims of the tragic history of Korea.

Kang Se-jong is tasked with the duty of defending his country against Sin. But his determination is tested when he learns of Sin's sad past from his elder sister Choi Myung-ju (played by Lee Mi-yeon). Sin has never forgiven the role that North and South Korea played in the death of his family and his tragic separation from his beloved sister. Fueled by this unrelenting rage, Sin has put into motion a plan to destroy the Korean Peninsula.

The inevitable conflict between the two men mirrors the struggle between North and South Korea and the scars of a divided nation. Directed by one of South Korea's most renowned directors, Kwak Kyang-taek, and starring a handsome and talented cast,
Typhoon is not a typical action blockbuster, but a tragic story rooted in the reality of a divided nation, a reality that is slipping from the memories of many people. Don't miss Typhoon!

The film is Rated "R" and is in Korean, Thai, Russian and English with English Subtitles.
