Time Bandits

A cheerfully irreverent lark -- part fairy tale, part science fiction and part comedy.

Time Bandits

Time Bandits is the fantasy-adventure-comedy film co-written, produced, and directed by Terry Gilliam and starring fellow Pythons Michael Palin and John Cleese along with a glittering cast including Sean Connery, Sir Ralph Richardson, Shelley Duvall, Katherine Helmond and David Warner. Gilliam explains that the film is about the "craziness of our awkwardly-ordered society and the desire to escape it through whatever means possible," all seen through the eyes of a child. Gilliam co-wrote the screenplay with Palin. Former Beatle George Harrison, an executive producer of the movie, wrote and performed the closing song, "Dream Away," especially for this film. Gilliam has related that the song's lyrics are actually Harrison's acerbic notes to him concerning Gilliam's trademark "difficult" behavior during the production of the film and, more specifically, the tension that arose between them due to Gilliam's reluctance to include any songs performed by Harrison in main body of the the film.
