Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives
“Girls just want to have fun, and God help anyone who rains on their parade in "Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives," a knockoff/sendup/homage/burlesque of '70s-exploitation movies that suggests what might have happened if Eli Roth had directed "Paris Is Burning." So far over the top it can barely see the ground, "Trannies" is a classic midnight movie that's…sure to attract a cult aud. Any innocents wandering in unawares will require immediate resuscitation.”
Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives
Presented in the style of classic 70s revenge films, Trannies tells the tale of the sweet and lovable Bubbles Cliquot and her band of fellow transgender vixens. After the ladies fall victim to an ambush by a baseball-bat-wielding, tranny-hating rapist named Boner, they set out to get cold-blooded, high-heeled vengeance with the help of some bladed weapons. The film provides plenty of laughs and bloody mayhem, which should appeal to horror and mainstream movie fans alike.
Trannies first made headlines this past spring after GLAAD protested its premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Flim Festival. The organization described the feature as “transphobic” and asked that it be removed from the festival lineup. Nevertheless, Trannies went on to play and has received warm praise from critics and audiences for its celebration of sisterhood and trans-gender empowerment.
Variety, for instance, has called it “a classic midnight movie that’s sure to attract a cult audience,” while Red Carpet Crash calls it “a wildly entertaining film that delivers on its title.”
Luna is still in awe that “Trannies” has elicited such enthused reactions from the public.
"I'm not sure if the controversy and protests have swayed people to approach the movie in a certain way, but the reactions have been amazing! We've gotten people yelling at the screen booing the villain, people cheering for the girls saying things like ‘kick their ass!’ I never expected this to be such a reaction-type of film, but I'm so happy that that's what the fans have made it!"
