Testimony
The Testimony
In November 2012 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the M23 rebel force drove the Congolese Army out of the eastern city of Goma. Shamed and demoralized, the government soldiers retreated to Minova, where they systematically raped hundreds of their own civilians.
THE TESTIMONY paints a vivid portrait of life as a woman in Congo, a country cited by the United Nations as the “worst place on earth to be a woman.” The film chronicles the February 2014 "Minova Trial," the largest rape tribunal in the country’s history and an unprecedented step toward the creation of a viable legal system in eastern Congo. Behind these stories of victimization are stories of unshakable resilience and survival. The film is subtitled in English and was shot in French and Swahili.
