Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Tim Burton’s terrific, bloody adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical about the grisly revenge exacted by Benjamin Barker (Johnny Depp), a 19th-century London barber unjustly imprisoned by a lecherous judge (a snarling Alan Rickman). Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Timothy Spall co-star. “A classy...delicacy...seamless...vibrant.” (Variety) “Something close to a masterpiece, a work of extreme -- I am tempted to say evil -- genius.” (N.Y. Times) The 2008 Golden Globe winner for Best Picture and Actor (Musical or Comedy).
