Super
Super is directed by Johan Klungel and produced by Lawson & Whatshisname and The Drawing Room. In 2004 Klungel graduated at the Minerva Academy of Groningen with his first animated short: Fauna Sutra, that won several awards including the third prize in at the Tribeca Film Festival, NY. Since then he has been working as a freelance animator and illustrator, doing many different assignments for print, television and internet. In 2012 he finished his latest short Super.
The main character in Super, Albert, gets lost in the seductive world of pretty packages. When his frivolous fantasy turns into a nightmare he discovers a different world behind the facade of the supermarket. Creative Producer of Super, Greg Lawson, reacted: “I'm extremely grateful that the Netherlands has chosen Johan Klungel's fine film to represent this animation-rich country for the Oscars. Hopefully it will help spread its darkly comic message about current food production and distribution to an influential wider audience”.
On January 16, 2014, the nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced in all categories. The Oscars ceremony will be held on March 2, 2014.
