Stranger than Fiction

The writer-director Marc Forster (Monster’s Ball) drifts into Charlie Kaufman’s metacomedy domain with the story of a Chicago I.R.S. auditor (Will Ferrell) who discovers he’s the protagonist of a murder mystery being written by a reclusive, best-selling writer (Emma Thompson). With Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah. “Inventive and funny.” (Variety) “The deader the deadpan the better. When Ferrell and Hoffman do their thing together, a charming bit of whimsy becomes something more. It becomes really, really funny.” (Chicago Tribune)
