The Story of Sergio

Animated Short

Even in the chaos of war, it is vital to distinguish between those who inflict violence and those who strive to heal it—often within the same nation. Yet the heaviest burden always falls on innocent children.

Two stories intertwine: Sergio De Simone, a Jewish child murdered at seven after being subjected to Nazi medical experiments, and German journalist Günther Schwarberg, who decades later devoted his life to uncovering the truth and informing families who never knew what became of their children.

The film moves between past and present, innocence and responsibility: the gaze of a boy who perished and the conscience of a man who chose to remember.

It concludes with images of the annual commemorations at the Bullenhuser Damm school and the Hamburg streets and gardens named after the twenty children—a tangible reminder that memory itself is an act of peace.
