Solitary Man

Divorced, broke and in his 50s, Ben (Michael Douglas) hopes for one last break in this comedy written and directed by Biran Koppelman and David Levien. With Danny DeVito, Jesse Eisenberg, Jenna Fischer, Mary-Louis Parker and Susan Sarandon.

"It offers audiences the pleasures of a screenplay whose every acerbic line is firmly rooted in character, and it hands Michael Douglas one of his best roles in years." (Justin Chang, Variety)

“A sharp, small-scale comedy of male misbehavior that turns out to be one of this dreary spring’s pleasant cinematic surprises…after “Wall Street” and “Wonder Boys,” [Douglas] could have played [this character] in his sleep, but instead he is fully alive, as engaged with the complexities of actorly portraiture as he has ever been.” (A.O. Scott, New York Times)

"Koppleman and his co-director, David Levien, hit the right tone early -- empathetic yet brutally honest -- and Douglas' absorbing, minutely detailed performance sustains it." (Matt Zoller Seitz, Salon)

"Michael Douglas surges ahead in Solitary Man with the best work he's done in the decade since Wonder Boys." (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly)
