Past Run
Seconds
It would be difficult to imagine knowing more about how to shoot a black and white movie than JWH did when he shot SECONDS for John Frankenheimer in 1966. The photography creates in the viewer the kind of "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" feeling essential to the success of any thriller. Few can make a location come alive as JWH does, combining a verite feel with self-conscious, precise camera moves. And Rock Hudson, playing the proverbial man with a second chance, conveys stumbling "I've got a secret" paranoia superbly (unsurprisingly). –R. Byington
