Scarf Face
SCARF FACE, a documentary film by Joe Ruzer and Sean Slater, explores the world of competitive eating and the untold story behind the epic rivalry between America’s Joey Chestnut and Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi. Organized for decades by George Shea’s Major League Eating organization, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island has become the preeminent event for eaters worldwide but not without its share of disturbing controversies and perilous dangers.
The film follows multiple eaters at various levels of their careers over the course of six years – including Miki Sudo, Molly Schuyler, and Juan "More Bite" Rodriguez – as they discuss their lives, superstitions, and health concerns as well as how they ended up as competitors in this bizarre subculture.
