The Same River Twice
The Same River Twice
In 1978, on a breath-taking trip in the Grand Canyon, filmmaker Robb Moss (RIVERDOGS) and a group of free-spirited friends and lovers took a month-long trip down the Colorado River. Cutting between footage of their youthful, often naked, unscheduled lives and the complex realities of their adulthood today, the film creates a compelling portrait of cultural metamorphosis. From running rapids to running for mayor, THE SAME RIVER TWICE is a story of change, choices, and of finding one's place in the world.
"It's a generous document of cultural passage, and not incidentally, the sexiest naturally nudist American movie since Murnau's Tabu." -- Michael Atkinson, VILLAGE VOICE
"Most of the river rats have achieved lives that they would call happy, but watching their reactions while they view footage of their carefree younger selves will put a lump in many throats." -- Colin Covert, MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE
"Succeeds through articulate, nostalgic sequences of introspection linked by poetic camerawork." -- Robert K. Elder, CHICAGO TRIBUNE
"A piercingly poignant then-and-now portrait of five friends who worked as summer guides on the Colorado River in the 1970's." -- Stephen Holden, NEW YORK TIMES
