A Royal Affair

A ROYAL AFFAIR is based on the true story of an ordinary man who wins the queen's heart and starts a revolution. Centering on the intriguing love triangle between the ever more insane Danish King Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard), the man of enlightenment and idealism Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen) and the young but strong Queen Caroline Mathilda (Alicia Vikander), A ROYAL AFFAIR is the gripping tale of brave idealists who risk everything in their pursuit of freedom for their people. Above all, it is the story of a passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation.

Award-winning writer/director Nikolaj Arcel presents an epic and dramatic love story based on historical events and starring internationally acclaimed Mads Mikkelsen (Magnolia’s upcoming THE HUNT for which Mikkelsen won the Best Actor Award at Cannes 2012, AFTER THE WEDDING, CASINO ROYALE, COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY, CLASH OF THE TITANS) and rising star, Alicia Vikander (next up in Joe Wright’s Tom Stoppard-scripted ANNA KARENINA). A ROYAL AFFAIR premiered at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival where it won Silver Bears for Best Actor and Best Screenplay and was a Gala Screening at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.
