Rebirth
REBIRTH is the result of a filmmaking journey into living history, following the 10-year transformation of five people whose lives were forever altered on September 11, 2001. Weaving these personal stories with unprecedented multi-camera time-lapse photography of Ground Zero, director Jim Whitaker offers hope and healing and reveals a universal truth: human beings will overcome and aspire to renew, even when the very fabric of their lives has changed. Original score by Phillip Glass.
A letter from the filmmaker:
“Dear Laemmle Patrons,
“A month after September 11th, I asked my wife if she would visit Ground Zero with me. If we had children one day, I wanted them to hear from their parents what that day was like. Seeing the site in its raw aftermath, I was inspired by the hope that it would one day be transformed. So, with a team of filmmakers, we placed fourteen 35-millimeter film cameras around Ground Zero to capture the minute-by-minute renewal of the site during the last decade. Over the same period, we interviewed five people deeply affected by the day to explore the marvel of human resilience after loss. The result is the film REBIRTH, a ten-year journey of hope and healing.
“Propelled emotionally by an original score from celebrated composer Philip Glass, the film is a meditation on physical and emotional healing, and the universal human experience of how we triumph over loss.
“For a limited time beginning August 26th, we invite you to personally experience a unique REBIRTH.”
Jim Whitaker (filmmaker, father of two)
