The Proposition

The Australian outback of the 1880s. Charlie (Guy Pearce) and his brothers have just raped and murdered a settler family. Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone) offers Charlie a proposition: he and his younger brother Mikey can go free if Charlie kills his older brother Arthur, an outlaw Stanley is intent on bringing to justice. If Charlie fails to comply, Mikey will be hanged on Christmas Day. Screenplay by Nick Cave. "Violent, grim and stunningly good." (Philadelphia Inquirer)
