Play the Game
Play the Game
There will be a Q&A w/ director Marc Fienberg following the 11 a.m. show in Santa Monica on Saturday. Sept. 5th.
A young ladies’ man, David, teaches his dating tricks to his lonely, widowed Grandpa, who is re‑entering the dating world after a sixty year hiatus. As Grandpa searches for companionship, David begins to wonder if he too should be looking for something more than just an immature sexual encounter.
When David meets the intelligent, attractive, and athletic Julie, and Grandpa meets a lovely seventy-five year old named Edna, they both become determined to play the game perfectly in order to win their women's hearts. But their games quickly begin to fail them both.
Grandpa soon dumps David's strategy and decides to go with his old-fashioned courting approach that worked well for him sixty years earlier. Grandpa wears his heart on his sleeve in courting Edna, she quickly falls for him, and the student becomes the teacher as Grandpa tries to convince David to follow his lead. But David doesn't have the guts to tell Julie his true feelings, and as his grandfather gets closer and closer to a meaningful relationship with Edna, David seems to get further and further away from a relationship with Julie.
Putting his games into high gear, David organizes an "accidental" romantic encounter with Julie, Miraculously, it works, and they spend a passionate night together. Grandpa and Edna have a passionate night of their own, thanks to a "secret black market drug" that Edna bought to enhance Grandpa's performance.
But when David finds out it was just a one-night stand, and Grandpa finds out he can buy Viagra at a pharmacy, they unwittingly switch philosophies: David abandons his own immature sexual pursuits and finally realizes he wants a companion, while Grandpa abandons his quest for companionship in favor of more immature sexual pursuits.
In the endgame with their women, both David and Grandpa make attempts to change their ways, but quickly come to realize that they may have met their match in more ways than one…
