Plastic Guns

Two flippant and surprisingly meta morticians introduce us to the supposed rockstar criminal profiler, Zavatta, who struts through Charles de Gaulle Airport to meet his family and fly to Argentina. Proving to be more of a doofus than a clever investigator, Zavatta misidentifies an innocent traveler as one of France’s most wanted killers. Assuming him to be the celebrity-du-jour killer who murdered his family, the Danish authorities arrest the traveler when he lands in Copenhagen.

Add two amateur sleuths investigating on their own, authorities from two countries competing over who can look the least foolish, and the real killer starting a new life, and soon the mounting tension bubbles over into side-splitting and shocking black humor while absolutely no one gets any closer to the truth.

Director Jean-Christophe Meurisse, reunited with his BLOODY ORANGES co-writer, Amélie Philippe, delivers a fantastical farce highlighting society’s growing apathy toward violence and our inability to change once we know something to be “true.” Committed to delivering the unexpected, the chaotic absurdity of PLASTIC GUNS finds itself slipping into surrealism and even the occasional dance number.
