Nanking

A doc about the Japanese invasion of Nanking during WWII, focusing on the efforts of a small group of unarmed Westerners who established a safety zone where over 200,000 Chinese found refuge. Told through moving interviews with survivors, archival footage and testimonies of Japanese soldiers interwoven with staged readings of the Westerners’ letters and diaries actors such as Woody Harrelson, Mariel Hemingway and Stephen Dorff. “Indispensable, beautifully crafted.” (H’wood Reporter)
