Past Run
The namesake
An Indian family juggles the twin challeges of cultural integration and preserving its heritage when it relocates from Calcutta to New York City in this film based on the best-selling novel by Jhumpa Lahiri. Directed by Mira Nair (Mississipi Masala, Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair).
“Jhumpa Lahiri's wildly popular novel about two generations of a Bengali family receives a loving, deeply felt screen translation that should appease fans of the book while making many new converts.” (Variety)
“There's a great deal of sweetness about THE NAMESAKE, and much of that radiates from the actors.” (salon.com)
