Microbe and Gasoline

Microbe, a shy, aspiring artist, has trouble making friends at school until he meets Gasoline, a like-minded outcast. Together they hatch a plan to build a car and spend their summer on an epic road trip across France. This charming adventure from Michel Gondry (MOOD INDIGO, BE KIND REWIND) has been called his “most satisfying movie since ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND,” reminding us how friendships can help us reach our true potential. Audrey Tautou (AMELIE, DA VINCI CODE) co-stars.

“Microbe and Gasoline is such a wonderfully touching film because it remembers the urgency of wanting to get older without growing up.  A winsomely grounded coming-of-age tale that often strikes a sublime harmony between the manic zaniness of Louis Malle's 1960 headrush Zazie dans le métro and the bittersweet anarchy of François Truffaut's The 400 Blows.” -David Ehrlich, Time Out New York

“A wonderfully sincere portrait of two adolescent outsiders determined to pave their own way in the world.” -Peter Debuge, Variety

“A charming coming-of-age saga in which Gondry channels his usual preoccupations through the prism of a Truffaut-esque tale of iconoclasts in search of themselves and their place in the world.  Gondry’s direction is assured without ever being showy. That’s also, ultimately, true of his fantastic leads. Buoyed by a script brimming with authentic back-and-forth ribbing and confessional exchanges, newcomers Baquet and Dargent exhibit an alternately ribald and frank rapport that, like the film itself, taps into the volatile anxiety of finding one’s self.” -Nick Schager, The Playlist
