Low Winter Sun

Low Winter Sun

AMC’s highly anticipated new drama series “Low Winter Sun,” starring Mark Strong (Zero Dark Thirty) and executive produced by showrunner and writer Chris Mundy (“Criminal Minds,” “Cold Case”), will be featured by the Laemmle Sneak Preview Club on July 29, 2013; the invitation will be sent out to LSPC members/enewsletter subscribers a few days beforehand. Based on the 2006 award-winning British two-part mini-series of the same name written by Simon Donald and produced by Tiger Aspect Productions (an Endemol Company), “Low Winter Sun” is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. The 10-episode series is a co-production between Endemol Studios and AMC Studios.

“Low Winter Sun” begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective, Frank Agnew (Strong). Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective’s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Filmed on location in Detroit, this gritty and provocative crime drama explores the city’s many contradictions, from its physical and spiritual decay to its survivors’ resilience.

Strong leads an ensemble cast that includes
Lennie James as Joe Geddes; a Detroit detective and Agnew’s partner in crime; Ruben Santiago-Hudson as Charles Dawson, the precinct’s Lieutenant; Athena Karkanis as Dani Khalil, a precinct detective; James Ransone as Damon Callis, the blue collar criminal at the center of Detroit’s underworld; Sprague Greydon as Maya Callis; Damon’s hard-nosed and cold-blooded wife; Billy Lush as Nick Paflas, a damaged veteran who is gradually folded into Detroit’s criminal crew; and David Costabile as Simon Boyd, an Internal Affairs investigator.
