A Kind of Loving
The new restoration of John Schlesinger's debut feature film A KIND OF LOVING opens Friday, May 26 at Laemmle's Monica Film Center. Schlesinger would go on to direct such international hits as DARLING (1965), MIDNIGHT COWBOY (1969), and MARATHON MAN (1976), but showed early promise with his first film, wowing audiences with its unpretentious and sympathetic portrayal of the British working class.
Young draftsman Vic Brown (Alan Bates) falls for his co-worker Ingrid Rothwell (June Ritchie). As he vacillates between infatuation and disinterest, Ingrid finds out that she is pregnant and Vic has to reconcile how he thought his life would go with what life actually has in store for him. British television icon Thora Hird co-stars as Ingrid's interfering mother.
