Kikuyu Land
"A stunning, revolutionary documentary... Investigative journalism at its very finest"
Kikuyu Land
In Kenya’s lush tea highlands, some of the world’s most familiar tea is grown on land stolen generations ago.
For Mr. Mungai, that history is personal. The land was taken from his family during British colonial rule, and his fight to reclaim it has become a decades-long legal battle against the Kenyan government and a powerful multinational corporation.
For Bea, who is investigating Mr. Mungai’s fight, the story becomes impossible to keep at a distance. Her search for answers leads into her own family’s past, unearthing secrets that force her to confront her own inheritance—and the realization that the history she set out to investigate has been part of her story all along.
And for Stephen, the young son of a tea worker growing up among the plantations, that legacy is not history at all. It is the world he is inheriting.
Kikuyu Land is an intimate reckoning with stolen land, buried memory, and the unfinished business of colonial power—asking who owns the land, who controls its history, and what justice looks like when the past is still shaping the present.
