Irina Palm

Marianne Faithfull stars as Maggie, a middle-aged widow who, desperate to raise money to pay for her grandson`s medical bills, takes a hostess job in a sex club. She soon transforms herself into the much sought after and highly paid “Irina Palm.” Along with her new persona, Maggie gains renewed self-confidence, realizing she is not as old and unattractive as she thought. But her two worlds collide as her clandestine existence provokes the suspicions of her family and inquisitive neighbors alike.

IRINA PALM had its international premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival 2007, where it screened in main competition.

"Faithfull is marvelous: Once notorious for her own escapades, this great-great-niece of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch is no shrinking violet, but she's perfect as a plump, frumpy widow with a huge heart and a hidden talent no one would ever suspect." (Henry Sinclair, TV Guide's Movie Guide)

"Ms. Faithfull turns out to be another actress of a certain age who is well used in a film to which she lends dignity, compassion and gravitas." (Andrew Sarris, New York Observer)

"Without showiness or actorly straining — but with a faint aura of rock ’n’ roll sexual glamour still hovering around her — Ms. Faithfull explores a full and fascinating range of emotion." (A.O. Scott, New York Times)
