immortal beloved

Gary Oldman stars as Ludwig van Beethoven in a story of love and intrigue brought to life by a London Symphony Orchestra score. Directed by Bernard Rose and co-starring Isabella Rossellini, the plot is put in motion when Beethoven's secretary and first biographer, Anton Schindler (Jeroen Krabbé) sets out to uncover the true identity of the late composer's secret love. Beethoven cryptically refers to her as "Immortal Beloved" in correspondence found in his private papers after his death. To solve the riddle, the film traverses the Austrian Empire as well as Beethoven's own intense and tumultuous life.
