One night, in the darkest days of the Second World War, three brothers—Bubi, Andrea, and Emanuel—fled their home in Tuscany and hid in a cave to escape the Nazis. Seventy years later, they return to Italy, hoping to rediscover the country they were forced to abandon. Their experience of Tuscany, famous for its zest for food, life, and adventure, stands in stark counterpoint to the tales they tell. Above all, the brothers seek a landmark; the cave that sheltered them—hoping that it will reconcile their conflicting memories of that great and terrible night.
