HFF- Colossal Sensation
A clown called Slomó has twins born in a travelling circus in the early 1900’s. Following their father’s profession the children become popular circus artists. They often appear in the circus ring together as clowns, acrobats, or even as illusionists. In the first half of the fifties one of their bold jokes put on at the gala performance of the Great Circus has a tragic ending. Although Naphtalene is responsible for what happened, it is still Dodo that gets punished: he is prisoned, and the twins are separated for years.
On 23rd October 1956 Naphtalene, who is working as a prop man in a theatre in the countryside involuntarily becomes the central figure of the events of the revolution. The next day he sets off to free his brother…
Through portraying the life of the twins this lyrical story with a lot of humour holds up a mirror of ever-valid alternatives of slavery or freedom. Should people remain loyal to ideals re-presented by their fathers or should they drift along without making decisions about life? How should challenges be responded to when they are imposed upon people by history affecting their lives again and again?
