Hannah Takes the Stairs

Over the course of one long post-graduate summer, Hannah falls precariously in and out of love. A breaker of hearts and chronically dissatisfied, she finds herself drifting away from her newly unemployed boyfriend (Mark Duplass, THE PUFFY CHAIR) and drawn to two of her co-workers, Matt (Kent Osborne) and Paul (Andrew Bujalski, MUTUAL APPRECIATION). Conceived without a traditional script, this triumph of improvisational acting was born from intimate collaboration between directorand cast, which is made up of some of today’s most important up-and-coming independent filmmakers.

“How can a movie with such a charming cast and believable dialogue (seemingly taken from the actors' real lives) go wrong? It can't.” (V.A. Musetto, New York Post)

“Hannah Takes the Stairs is notable for what the movie represents: an evolutionary entry in the Do It Yourself (or D.I.Y.) independent film movement.” (Matt Zoller Seitz, New York Times)

“[Director] Joe Swanberg has an uncanny talent for making the randomness of downtime feel as alive as it seems generationally true.” (Wesley Morris, Boston Globe)

“It’s impossible to predict how the Mumblecorps will mature but, given their immersion in the moment, I suspect that the films they’ve made will age very well.” (J. Hoberman, Village Voice)
