Guerrilla Habeas

GUERRILLA HABEAS tells the story of two intrepid lawyers in their crusade against ICE and the epidemic of deportations plaguing the United States. Within the broader context of the global immigration crisis and its resultant human rights tragedies, we closely follow Sarah Gillman and Gregory Copeland to experience firsthand their fight against inhumane ICE conduct and the toll this takes on them as individuals. Far from the border, we meet their clients Baba, Kinimo, and Nirna, long-standing community members, with families and jobs, whose stories help us understand why Sarah and Gregory put everything on the line to ensure their freedom and family unity. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and Law Professor Sarah Rogerson help contextualize these relentless efforts to restore freedom and bring dignity to the immigration process. GUERRILLA HABEAS provides an intimate view into the rampant violations of civil liberties, the communities and families faced with being torn apart, and the endemic lack of representation and resources in our failed immigration system. The film encourages audiences to ask: What do we stand for and how much are we willing to fight to stay true to our values?
