Explicit Ills

Jim Jarmusch serves as executive producer for this drama that marks the directorial debut of actor Mark Webber (The Hottest State). Explicit Ills is set in the Philadelphia that doesn’t make an appearance in lighthearted comedies. The residents of these tough streets struggle to survive amid poverty and hardship, but this film ultimately gives a message of hope. This Audience Award Winner at SXSW in 2008 stars Paul Dano, Rosario Dawson, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Naomie Harris.

“The film’s cast and the fluid camerawork are as hip as can be, and in this age of Obama, so is the sentiment -- unflinching but optimistic.” (Alison Willmore, Time Out New York)

“It's the best reflection of inner city life, and its effect on children, since Charles Burnett's 1977 drama Killer of Sheep.” (Peter Schilling, Minneapolis Star Tribune)

“A film that wants to speak out (loudly and clearly) about some of our nation's most obvious maladies, and it does so in an impressively honest, angry, and semi-hopeful fashion.” (Scott Weinberg, Cinematical)
