English as a second language

Bolivar de la Cruz is making the treacherous journey from Mexico to California. He meets Lola Sara, a hipster who takes little in life seriously, when Lola runs a red light and collides with the wagon that's transporting him. Bolivar finds money and fame as a male stripper and escort while Lola finds herself pregnant without a partner. She reaches out to Bolivar for emotional support, and even as he's sinking into a void of greed, drugs, and promiscuity, Bolivar decides to answer Lola's call. As the two characters struggle with the demons that tear them up inside, they reach out to each other and are able to find the courage to make the choices that are most difficult but truest to their own selves.
