Past Run
Charlie Wilson’s War
The best satirical fiction is based on true stories: a Texas congressman (Tom Hanks) teams up with a rogue C.I.A. agent (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and a right-wing Texan (Julia Roberts) to finance the Afghan revolt against the Soviet occupation and in the process arm our future enemies, the Taliban. Mike Nichols directs a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. Amy Adams co-stars. “That rare Hollywood commodity these days: a smart, sophisticated entertainment for grownups.” (Variety)
