Bendito infierno
The last decade has been nothing but tough times for Heaven. Its directors are more that worried, given that in the last few years the number of souls that have passed the entrance exams are practically inexistent. All the contrary in Hell, where an avalanche of new interns is beginning to create problems of overcrowding. In the battle between good and evil, it seems that Hell has won a decisive victory.
But just when the directors of Heaven, depressed and distressed, are about to throw in the towel, they receive a request: a mother prays for them to try to save the soul of her son, Manny Chaves (Demian Bichir), a boxer with a more than turbulent past. The directors of Heaven grab this opportunity with desperation and send to Earth one of their best-trained angels, Lola Nevado (Victoria Abril). Lola, passing as the wife of the boxer, will try her best to bring Manny’s soul to Heaven.
But the Hell’s intelligence agents, who report to Jack Davenport (Gael Garcia Bernal), immediately detect the presence of Lola on Earth, and to keep her from succeeding they send one of their most experienced field agents, Carmen Ramos (Penelope Cruz). Carmen, provided with a false identity that allows her to pass as Manny’s cousin, is able to install herself quickly in Manny’s house.
In their modest apartment in Madrid and in the supermarket where they work, both angels, the loyal and the rebel, discover quickly that one thing is theory and the other is practice. For this task, they will have to join forces to achieve their objective. In the process they will discover that they have much more in common than they thought.
