All About Eve

NO LONGER PLAYING

All About Eve

This year two of the artistic triumphs of 1950 have drawn large audiences once again—the theatrical reissue of Carol Reed’s The Third Man and our Anniversary Classics screening of Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard with co-star Nancy Olson in attendance. Now join us for the 65th anniversary screening of the Oscar-winning Best Picture of that landmark year: ALL ABOUT EVE. The film won six Oscars in all. Its other wins included best supporting actor George Sanders and two Oscars for Joseph L. Mankiewicz for direction and screenplay. But the film also has the distinction of earning more Academy Award nominations -- 14 in all -- than any other movie up to that time. In fact only one other film, 1997’s Titanic -- matched that total in later years, no film in history has ever surpassed the 14 nominations collected by All About Eve. The nods highlighted four of the superb actresses featured in the film: past Oscar winners Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, and Celeste Holm, along with perennial nominee Thelma Ritter. The film also marked one of the early screen appearances of a rising starlet named Marilyn Monroe.

Join us to experience this biting masterpiece once again on the big screen, with a theatrical audience primed to respond to the movie’s many priceless quips. A few years ago, Movieline magazine named
All About Eve as the greatest dissection of social climbing ever presented on screen. Our anniversary screening will take place exactly 65 years to the day after its original opening (October 13, 1950). There will be a trivia contest and other surprises as well as a pre-screening discussion led by Stephen Farber and Mike McClellan.
