Along with Alan Menken, Howard wrote the Oscar-winning songs for THE LITTLE MERMAID but as it bec\ame a global phenomenon, Howard was diagnosed with HIV—which he kept a secret in an era when AIDS was a death sentence. Howard’s health deteriorated as he wrote the lyrics for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST from his hospital bed. His unparalleled career and vibrant life were cut short at only 39 years old.
