Under the Wire

Fearsome...this is a heart-stoppingly suspenseful story. Conroy is a superb commentator on war and all its cruelties and absurdities.

Under the Wire

On February 13, 2012, two journalists entered war-ravaged Syria. Only one of them returned.

Sunday Times war correspondent Marie Colvin and photographer Paul Conroy went to cover the plight of Syrian civilians trapped in Homs, a city under siege and relentless military attack from the Syrian army. UNDER THE WIRE, based on the book by Paul Country, tells the incredible story of their fateful mission - and Paul’s epic battle to escape the city to the the world of his fallen colleague and the plight of the people of Homs.

UNDER THE WIRE is a film about real journalism: about war, and an extraordinary commitment to telling the truth, whatever the cost. At the heart of the film is Paul Conroy’s own testimony – he describes his and Marie’s rage at seeing doctors fighting to save innocent lives in makeshift back room hospitals, women and children cowering in darkened basements, and the spirit of a people fighting to stay alive in the face of horrific attack. The film is told through the voices of the individuals directly involved, all talking to camera about the story for the first time.

At a time when truth is obscured and facts are not treated as such, UNDER THE WIRE speaks truth to power. It’s the perfect companion to A PRIVATE WAR, the narrative adaptation of the same story (starring Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan & Stanley Tucci) opening the same weekend.
