Vaya

Paying homage to the Tsotsitaal namesake meaning "to go," VAYA chronicles the innocence lost by three young South Africans who journey away from their rural homes on a train bound for Johannesburg. Stirring and suspenseful, director Akin Omotoso's film intertwines stories of strangers struggling to survive in a narrative that culminates in an explosive moment based on real accounts. VAYA made its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and garnered Omotoso the African film Academy Award for Best Director.
