Una

Una's raw, deeply discomfiting dance between obsession and exploitation isn't easy to watch by any metric; they make it hard to look away.

NO LONGER PLAYING

Una

Based on David Harrower’s award winning play “Blackbird,” UNA is a compelling drama that walks an ambiguous tightrope around the aftermath of a taboo relationship between an older man and a 13-year-old girl. With deft and delicate handling by first time director Benedict Andrews, instead of a salacious piece of exploitation the audience is drawn into a character driven suspense-filled thriller that follows the girl as she confronts the man who damaged her. But what does she want? Answers? Revenge? Or something else?

The secrets of the past threaten to unravel Ray's (Ben Mendelsohn) new life when a young woman named Una (Rooney Mara) unexpectedly comes looking for answers. Fifteen years earlier, when she was just 13, Una ran away with Ray, her middle-aged neighbor. Ray was subsequently arrested and imprisoned for having sex with a minor, while Una faced constant judgment and shame. When Una comes across a photo of Ray in an article years later, she tracks him down to his workplace. Una's surprise appearance threatens to destroy Ray's new life and he wants nothing to do with her. But as buried memories surface, Una and Ray recall unanswered questions from their past, as well as undiminished longing.
