Spitak
Spitak
The release of SPITAK coincides with the 30th anniversary of the December 7, 1988 earthquake in Armenia, which killed 25,000 and left more than half a million people homeless. The composer of the film is Armenian-American musician Serj Tankian, a founder and frontman of System of a Down.
SPITAK is based on true events and tells a story of the devastating earthquake, which happened in the city of Spitak on December 7, 1988. The protagonist is Gor, who left Armenia for greener pastures years earlier but now returns to search for his family trapped at the earthquake's epicenter. On his way, he meets various people -- medics, volunteers, city officials -- each of whom has their own personal tragedies and challenges. The locals struggle to find their loved ones, alive or dead. Gor refuses to give up looking for his family, sure that his wife and small daughter are still alive somewhere under the debris. As long as there is love, there is hope.
