Film Summary Based on a true story. September 10, 1928: An accident occurs at the Tyrolean Zillertal that leads to a spectacular circumstantial evidence lawsuit that causes a stir far beyond the Austrian borders.
The Jewish dentist Morduch Halsman (Heinz Hoenig), whose origins are in Riga/ Latvia, goes on a mountain hike with his 22-year-old son Philippe (Ben Silverstone). Morduch Halsman dies during this journey. His son’s version of the story: His father fell.
Philippe Halsman is arrested due to suspicions of patricide. His lawyer (Patrick Swayze) is able to get a reprieve with help from prominent intercessors like Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein and Thomas Mann.
Halsman later escapes to New York. He makes photos for over a hundred covers of LIFE magazine. With his portraits of Einstein, Dali, Monroe, Nixon, JFK and many other prominent people of his time he becomes world-famous. Halsman’s “Jump” photos are still legendary today.
